Dykota Spiess broke a 6-6 tie with a three-run home run to lead the Catamounts to a 9-7 win over No. 24 Appalachian State to claim the series.
2011 (Junior): Tossed 13 innings in a career-high 14 relief appearances on the year ... Struck out 13 against 11 walks ... Made eight scoreless appearances on the year ... Did not give up an earned run until his third appearance on the season - and only allowed one earned run through his first eight appearances ... Scattered five base hits in a season-best three innings in a road win over High Point (4/26), striking out two in picking up his first career victory ... Changed his arm angle prior to the start of the season to increase his effectiveness on the hill ... Made two pinch hit plate appearances, striking out twice.
2010 (Sophomore): Made 13 appearances, all out of the bullpen for the WCU pitching staff, finishing with a 6.75 ERA ... Struck out 19 batters against nine walks, recording a strikeout in all but three of his appearances on the mound ... Tossed a season-long three innings in a home win over Charlotte, striking out three ... Matched a career-high with four strikeouts in two innings of relief work against the Georgia Bulldogs ... Is lined up to play for the Waynesboro Generals with teammate Taylor Sandefur in the Valley League.
2009 (Freshman): Made 12 appearances out of the WCU bullpen, tossing 22 innings with a 9.41 ERA ... Posted 18 strikeouts against 10 walks as a frosh ... Made his collegiate debut on Feb. 22 in a home win over Bowling Green, striking out two in two-thirds of an inning after allowing a walk and one earned run ... Threw a career-long four and a third against Eastern Kentucky in the five-hour marathon game ... Struck out a career-high four on two occasions, both coming in consecutive outings ... Recorded his first career save in relief during the home win over East Tennessee State, fanning four in two and a third-innings pitched ... Recorded one plate appearance, striking out in his first collegiate at bat as a pinch hitter.
High School: A three-time Western Athletic Conference (WAC) selection in 2006, '07 and '08 ... Named the WAC co-Player of the Year in 2008 en route to garnering All-State accolades ... Ranked tied for first (with two others) in the state with 12 home runs, adding 42 RBI to rank second ... Was tied for 27th in the state with 31 runs scored and drew 24 walks ... Homered for the cycle in a single game, belting a solo, two-run, three-run and grand slam home runs in a 16-7 win over Pisgah on April 1, 2008 ... Named Times News Player of the Week en route to being named All-Area by the same publication ... Was a two-time Citizen-Times All-Area selection as an honorable mention ...
