WCU Athletics Announces 2013 Catamounts Unite Tour

Feb. 25, 2013

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - On the heels of the inaugural "Catamounts Unite Tour" that ventured across the Catamount Nation during the early spring of 2012, Western Carolina's athletics department has announced plans for the second annual - and expanded - tour coming this spring. Director of Athletics, Randy Eaton, Head Football Coach Mark SpeirMAEd'95 and Head Men's Basketball Coach Larry Hunter, as well as several other Catamount coaches, will travel across North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia, reaching out to members of the Catamount Nation.

"It has become apparent to me over the course of my first year as Athletic Director that we in athletics have not done a very good job in the past reaching out to our supporters. Not only has this left many feeling neglected, but we have been unable to share our story about the great young people we have wearing the purple and gold," said Eaton. "My hope is that these tour stops will allow us again to share our vision of today, tomorrow and beyond, while adding to the tremendous energy that currently exists within our fan base. Only by getting everyone recommitted to our success will we be able to meet our goals in the future."

The 2013 version of the Catamounts Unite Tour series of receptions is designed to allow Eaton, Speir and Hunter - as well as other Catamount coaches - to meet with WCU alumni, supporters and fans as they craft together the vision and direction of Catamount Athletics.

The two-month, 12-stop tour is scheduled to kick off Wednesday, March 27, in the Triad of North Carolina in Greensboro and culminate with a Tuesday, May 21, stop in the Upstate of South Carolina in Greenville. Along the way, the tour includes in-state visits to the Triangle area in Raleigh (March 28), the Catawba Valley region in Morganton (April 11), Shelby (May 1) and Charlotte (May 6). The tour will reach the Catamount Nation in Western North Carolina with stops slated for Andrews (April 2), Waynesville (April 18), Sylva (April 19), Franklin (May 14), and Asheville (May 16). The tour also will make a visit to Atlanta, Georgia on May 9th.

Each tour event with the exception of the stop in Sylva begins at 6:00 p.m. and lasts until 8:00pm. The Sylva reception will have a special start time of 8:00pm at The Banquet Hall with a performance by The Buchanan Boys and kick-off an exciting Catamount weekend featuring Saturday's football spring game as well as a baseball and softball series with conference foe Georgia Southern.
