CULLOWHEE, N.C. -
Western Carolina cross country returns to Charlotte Friday for the 2012 Royal Cross Country Challenge, hosted by Queens University of Charlotte. The women will compete in the 5,000m event at 3:30 p.m. with the men to follow running 8,000m at the flat, fast course of McAlpine Creek Park.
"Hopefully this will be the time of the season that we all come out of our shell and post an outstanding performance," said head coach Danny Williamson.
Thirty total teams from around the Southeast are set to compete Friday including SoCon foes Davidson, Elon and Wofford.
"We feel as if we are ready to give and have our best effort of the season, and we would like to come home with our best team finish of the season."
The last time out for the Catamounts, also in Charlotte, sophomore Jocelyn Keen ran the third fastest women's 6000m time in Western Carolina history to pace the Catamounts in the Charlotte Invitational. On the men's side, Josey Weaver placed 31st overall to lead the WCU men, running at 25:16.39 in the 8000m.
