Catamounts Cross Country Travels To Kentucky To Participate In Greater Louisville Classic on Sat. Oct. 4 at 9 a.m.

Oct. 3, 2008

Cullowhee, NC- The Western Carolina men's and women's cross country teams will be traveling to Louisville, Ky., to participate in the Greater Louisville Classic on Sat. Oct. 4 with the men's race starting at 9:30 a.m. The women's race will begin at 10:15 a.m.

The men's races will be 8,000 meters in length, while the women's races will be 5,000 meters.

"This meet will give our athletes an opportunity to compete against some of the best competition in the south and southeast region," said Head Coach Danny Williamson. "It will be a great challenge for us, but we feel that we have prepared ourselves very well," Williamson said.

The Catamounts come into the meet following a solid performance in the Catamount Classic on Sept. 20. Both the men's and women's team came in with second place finishes falling just behind the University of Georgia.

The top individual performances were by Stephen Hammound (3), and Megan Issacs (6) who both fell just behind their University of Georgia counterparts.

"Our goal for this weekend is for each individual to come away from this meet knowing that they gave all they had for the catamounts, and that what they gave was their best effort ever given," said Coach Williamson.

Following the event in Louisville, the Catamounts will be back in action two weeks later in the Blue Ridge Open in Boone, N.C. on Fri. Oct. 17 starting at 5 p.m.
