Cullowhee, N.C. -
For the second consecutive week, Western Carolina junior Adam Puett was named the Southern Conference Men's Runner of the Week, the league announced today. The Huntsville, Ala., native placed fourth at the Clemson Invitational this past Saturday.
Puett finished the 8k course with a time of 25:22.50 and was the only competitor not from Clemson to finish among the top eight. Puett's time currently stands as the top time in the Southern Conference, 10 seconds better than Appalachian State's Joe Halin.
"I think it is a credit to Adam's abilities and his hard work that he put in over the summer that he has performed this well early," said WCU head coach Danny Williamson. "It is tough to earn this honor twice in a row in this league. He is doing a good job leading the tam and leading by example. His time at Clemson is impressive for this early in the season. He is running a minute faster than he did at this same time last year."
The Western Carolina men's and women's cross country teams were scheduled to host the Western Open next weekend (Oct. 2), but that meet has been cancelled. The Cats will return to action Oct. 9 at Furman.
