WCU Women's Cross Country Team Named to National All-Academic Team

Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's cross country team was recently named to the NCAA Division I All-Academic Team for 2002-03. This is the fourth consecutive year the team has received this honor.

To qualify, the team must have a 3.00 cumulative grade point average. The Catamounts posted a 3.14 GPA for the season and were listed ahead of area schools East Tennessee State (3.04) and UNC Asheville (3.11). There were 11 members on the team with three making the Dean's List for the fall of 2002. Tammy Ulander earned a 3.938, Deanna Kulesz had a 3.617 and Melanie Cooper posted a 3.734.

The women's cross country team, which competes in the fall, finished the season eighth in the Southern Conference and had two second place finishes for the season: the Western Carolina Invitational and the Catamount Classic the following week.
