Women

Spartanburg, S.C. - The Catamounts cross country teams each finished the 2008 season with seventh place finishes in the SoCon Championships, which were held Saturday at Milliken Park in Spartanburg, S.C.

Sophomore Jordan Gaddy took individual honors by finishing in 17th place out of 98 runners with a time of 18:42.43. Junior Danielle Shaurette finished next in 29th place with a time of 19:00.54. Senior Megan Isaacs finished in 35th place with a time of 19:05.31.

Junior Stephen Hammond paced the men's team with a 23rd place finish out of 98 runners with a time of 25:59.56. Freshman Josey Weaver finished next with a 32nd place finish with a time of 26:23.19 followed by sophomore Stephon Roach coming in 37th with a time of 26:33.82. Weaver was also named to the All-Freshman team thanks to his solid performance in the Southern Conference Championship.

Appalachian State won the 2008 men's Southern Conference Championship with 40 points thanks to four runners in the top 10 of the meet. Western Carolina men's team finished in seventh place with 197 points, holding on to that position by just one point over Davidson.

Chattanooga won the 2008 women's Southern conference Championship with 60 points thanks to two runners in the top 10 of the meet. The Mocs held on to the title after a strong run from SoCon newcomer Samford in second with 62 points. Western Carolina women's squad also finished in seventh with 158 points.

Western Carolina hopes to continue to build on their success from this season with the men's team losing one senior and the women's team losing three seniors.
