CHARLESTON, SC - The Western Carolina men's and women's cross country teams finished third in the Southern Conference Championships Saturday morning at the James Island County Park in Charleston, SC.

Western Carolina's Jesse Norman won the individual title (24:48) for the Catamounts after finishing 18th in the 2000 race, earning Runner of the Year honors. Caleb Bailey finished third overall with a time of 24:55. Ben Watkins ran 25:34 for a 16th place finish. Rounding out the scoring for Western was Cory McCall with a time of 26:40 and Philip Ramsey placing 41st with a time of 26:52.

On the women's side Melanie Cooper led with a time of 18:38 placing 12th. Holly Bright placed 18th with a time of 18:41 while Megan Thacker ran a time of 18:55 for an 18th place finish. Whitney Woods placed 20th and Tanya Edmands finished 21st with times of 18:59 and 19:04, respectively.

Appalachian State's men defended their 2000 crown with the Chattanooga women winning their third title.
