Cross Country Competes in Blue Ridge Open

Western Carolina's men's cross country team finished fifth of nine teams in the Blue Ridge Open hosted by Appalachian State.

Freshman Caleb Bailey led WCU finishing seventh overall with a time of 25:49. He was followed by sophomore Jesse Norman who place 13th with a time of 26:16.

The women's team finished with only 48 seconds between five of them. Sophomore Whitney Woods led the way placing 16th with a time of 19:06, followed by sophomore Melanie Cooper with a time of 19.34 and placing 29th in the ten team competition.

Furman won the women's race placing three runners in the top five while Appalachian won the men's race.

Western Carolina will take the next weekend off and will host the North Carolina Intercollegiate Championships Saturday, October 14. Race times will begin at 10:00 a.m.
