2012 WCU Invitational

Western Carolina University hosted the WCU Invitational held on Aug. 31. Florida swept both the men's and women's races.

Williamson begins his 21st year as head men's and women's track & field coach. He also coaches the Catamount Cross Country teams during the fall.

During his years at the helm of the Western Program he has directed the Catamounts from the lower part of the tough Southern Conference to a prominent figure at the top of the conference standings year in and year out. Many years ago when Williamson took control of this program this was his vision, to be able to assemble a group of young men and women that could work together for a common goal and be able to count on and depend on each other to accomplish this goal.

During his tenure the Catamounts (men and women) have claimed nine different Southern Conference Team Championships. Williamson has witnessed over 400 of his athletes recieve All Southern Coference Awards and over 150 Western Carolina Track and Field/Cross Country Athletes be named an Individual Conference Event Champion. In addition he has directed 3 Western athletes to NCAA All-American status and seen 40 athletes acquire an NCAA Automatic or Provisiona Qualifing mark. The Catamounts have also collected 15 Southern MVP awards and numerous athletes of the week awards. His coaching peers have selected him Southern Conference Coach of the Year on 16 different occasions and in 1999 he was selected the NCAA Regional Track and Field Coach of the Year.

Williamson oversees all aspects of the program, but works directly with all of the running and hurdling events.

A 1985 graduate of Western Carolina University with a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Williamson returned to Western and completed his Master's in Education in 1986. During this time is when he began his duties with the program.

Williamson is married to the former Jennifer Bowers of Pembroke Pines, FL. They are the proud parent of two girls, Colbie and Rylee.
