Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina men's and women's track and field team carry on the meaning of Christmas for the 12th consecutive season.

For over a decade the track and field team at Western has been buying toys with their own money and donating them to the Christmas Store held at the Western Carolina University Baptist Student Union. This holiday season was no different. The 2000-01 men's and women's track and field team carried on the tradition Friday afternoon as they dropped off several toys that will be given to needy families in Jackson County.

"I think it is great that the kids are willing to give back to a community that is so supportive of us and WCU," stated Head Coach Danny Williamson. "The student-athletes that we have are willing to give up something to give it to others. I guess you could say that our team philosophy is that if it means we have a little less so someone else can have a something, that makes us feel good."
