Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina University track and field head coach Danny Williamson has announced the addition of Nicole Lopez and Wayne Miller to WCU's fall 2004 signing class. The two join Rachel Glasgow, who has already signed with the Catamounts.

Lopez, a 6-2 shot put/discus thrower from Oak Ridge High School in Orlando, Fla., has helped the ORHS Pioneers become a state championship contender under head coach William Stamper. Lopez will help add depth to the Catamounts' already strong throwing squad.

"We are very excited to land an athlete of Nicole's stature and raw potential," Williamson said. "We look forward to developing her into the type of thrower that we feel she can be."

Miller, a distance runner from Piedmont High School in Monroe, N.C., was an all-Southern Piedmont runner with a best time of 16:13 in the 5K (cross country). He also boasts times of 10:05 in the two mile run and 4:32 in the one mile.

"(Wayne) Field is just now coming into his own as a distance runner," said Williamson. "In the last year he has made remarkable improvements in his development and this is what caught our eye. We feel that he will be able to be a big contributor to our distance program."
