Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina University head track and field/cross country coach Danny Williamson announced the signing of Rachel Glasgow to a National Letter of Intent, who will join the Catamount team in the Fall of 2004.
Glasgow, a pole vaulter and hurdler from Winston-Salem, N.C., was the 2003 North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) 3A State Champion in both the 100m hurdles (15.8) and 300m hurdles (46.2). The Forsyth Country Day School senior was also the state runner-up in the pole vault (9-6).
"Rachel is an extremely versatile athlete," Williamson said. "She not only won the state meet in the hurdles and was runner-up in the pole vault, but placed in the discus as well. We will be emphasizing her two biggest strengths-hurdles and pole vault. Her strengths will be a great addition to our team."
Glasgow was an all-conference selection during her sophomore and junior seasons and was voted MVP of the conference team during the 2003 season. Rachel is the 2003-04 team captain and outside of track and field she is a member of the National Honor Society, Girls Service Club, and the Christian Fellowship Club.
Glasgow was coached by Noel Ruebel. Ruebel was the former coach of 2000 Olympic bronze medalist decathlete Chris Huffins.
