Women's Track and Field, Van Pelt, Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Western Carolina women's track and field is one of 171 institutions named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2012 Division I All-Academic Track and Field Team. Additionally men's track and field member Jamie Van Pelt was honored individually by the USTFCCCA on the All-Academic Team.

Collectively, Western Carolina's women's track and field team had a 3.19 team GPA. In the recently released 2012 Southern Conference Academic All-Conference team, for the spring, the Catamount women's track field program placed four on the team, each with a 3.3 GPA or higher.

Van Pelt, who set a school record, in 2012, with a 59.89m toss in the hammer throw at the NCAA East Prelims, graduated in the spring of 2012 with a 3.59 GPA in Political Science. He was a 2012 member of the SoCon Academic All-Conference Team.
