Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina men's track & field team earned another award today as junior Dominique Young was named the SoCon's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Month for May.
Junior Dominique Young has a stellar month of May by winning the Southern Conference Championships in the men's 100-meter dash and being a part of victories in the 4x100, and the 4x400-meter relay teams as well.
Young finished eighth in the 100-meter dash and seventh in the 200-meter dash at the NCAA Southeast Region meet. He set a new Western Carolina school record in the 100-meters with a time of 10.40 seconds and sprinted to a personal best of 20.86 in the 200-meters. He was also a member of the 4x100-meter relay team that set a seasonal best of 39.86 and qualified for the finals at the Regional championships.
Young was hoping to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Nationals being held in Fayetteville, Arkansas but fell just short in two events being the last man out. Dominique will look to continue his success during next year season as the upcoming senior will look to break even more records for the Catamounts.
