Cullowhee, N.C. – Senior sprinter Manteo Mitchell returns to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the third straight season looking to bring home a National Title in the men’s 400-meter dash event. The qualifying heats of the 400-meter dash will begin on Wednesday evening at 7:15 CT at John McDonnell Field at the University of Arkansas.
Mitchell has had a storied career in track & field at Western Carolina holding numerous records and carrying the load as a senior leader. He has placed as high as 21st in last year’s 400-meter dash event and will look to improve on his time of 46.00 seconds, currently 20th overall entering this week’s event.
Mitchell, the Southern Conference champion in the event during both the indoor and outdoor seasons, set the WCU record in the outdoor 400-meter dash at the Georgia Tech Invitational this season with the mark of 46.00 seconds.
The first round of the men’s 400-meter dash will begin on Wednesday at 7:15 pm CT (8:15 pm ET). If Mitchell advances, he will compete in round two on Thursday. The top ten finishers US collegiate finishers will garner All-American status, which would be a first Mitchell’s career.
