2008 Women's NCAA All-East Region Team 
Cullowhee, N.C. - Nine Western Carolina track & field student-athletes were today recognized as being named to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field All-East Region team, as selected and announced by the United Stats Track & Field / Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Headlining the group was senior Raquel Ramseur, who earned the all-region accolade as a part of both the women's 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay teams and as an individual in the 400-meter dash. On the men's side, senior Zeb Johnson and junior Manteo Mitchell were both twice recognized as a member of WCU's 4x100-meter relay team, as well as an individuals in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash, respectively.
Ramseur was one of only two student-athletes from the Southern Conference recognized in an individual event as six female athletes from the league were honored. Johnson and Mitchell were the only men from the conference named to the East Regional squad as individuals, joined by their relay partners as the league's only recipients.
Joining Ramseur on the women's 4x100-meter relay squad which was named to the All-East Region team were senior Tangelia Johnson and freshmen Felicia Paulding and Janet Carothers. The 400-meter relay team finished eighth in the region with at time of 45.19, the squad's second-best on the season after setting a school record in the preliminary rounds.
Freshman Shalyn McMichael replaced Johnson on the 4x400-meter relay team as the trio of rookies teamed with the senior Ramseur to make the all-region team. The four won their heat during the preliminary round and finished eighth in the East in the finals.
On the men's side, accompanying both Johnson and Mitchell on the 4x100-meter relay team were sophomores Christian Bethune and Dominique Young. The foursome twice broke the WCU school record at the regional, turning a hot lap of 39.64 - the quickest in the preliminary round - last Friday before eclipsing that mark in the finals with a record time of 39.59 to place third in the East and to advance to nationals.
The NCAA National Championship is scheduled for June 11-14 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa and hosted by Drake University.
