NCAA East Regional Information
Lexington, Va. - The Western Carolina University Track & Field team departed the Cullowhee Valley on Tuesday afternoon bound for New York and the 2005 NCAA East Regional. A total of 16 student-athletes qualified for the regional meet, with eight of those having surpassed the NCAA qualifying standard.
This years East Regional is being hosted by Manhattan College at their new facility, Icahn Stadium, on Randall's Island May 27-28.
The first leg of the trek to the metropolis of New York City took the Track Cats to familiar territory. Western spent Tuesday night in Lexington, Va., the home to former Southern Conference member Virginia Military Institute (VMI).
On the docket for Wednesday is a quick morning workout at the facilities at VMI followed by a quick lunch then back on the road. From Lexington to White Plains, N.Y., where Western will spend the next several days as it competes, is approximately a six hour drive. The travel party intends on getting settled Wednesday evening then taking a sight-seeing excursion into New York City and Times Square.
