Holly Bright Earns Verizon Academic All-District III Honors

Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina track and field stand-out senior Holly Bright has been named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District III Second Team, it was announced today. Bright is the sixth Catamount to earn Academic All-District III honors to date this season, joining Jason Whaley (football), Pablo Abraham (football), Laura Echols (women's basketball), Yoneko Allen (women's basketball) and Ryan Schade (baseball).

Bright (Gainesville, Ga.) is an accomplished runner for both the track and cross country teams. She finished seventh in the 10,000 meter run at the Southern Conference Tournament this year. She also finished fifth in the 5,000 meter run, fourth in the 1,500 meter run and anchored the All-Conference DMR team. Bright received the cross country team MVP at the annual athletic banquet this spring for her efforts in helping the team earn their highest finish ever in the SoCon last fall.

This is the first time Bright has earned the Verizon academic award. She is a member of the WCU Academic All-America with Distinctions Team and posts a 3.783 grade point average in Biology.
