Track and Field Has 10 Top-Eight Finishes at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Western Carolina men's and women's track and field had 10 top eight finishes at the 2013 Penn Relays April 25-27.

The four member team of Sam Lusty, Abraham Faison, Marquis Bailey and Tyler Bentley were the highest placing for the Catamounts with a second place performance in the shuttle hurdle championship with a time of 58.78. Sticking with the men's team, the combination of Bob McNeil, Brandon Hairson, Demari Boswell and Aaron Tribble placed eighth in the 4x100 with a time of 41.50.

On the women's side, the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year Tayla Carter placed sixth in the 100m dash with a time of 11.70. Carter was also a member of the 4x100m relay team, consisting of herself, Kinnari Badger, Brittany Diggs and Raven Parrish, who placed sixth with a time of 46.34.

Jocelyn Keen was a member of two relay teams that had top-eight finishes at the event. Keen along with teammates Lena Elliott, Hayley Tomlison and Mara Smith placed fourth in the 4x800m relay with a time of 8:51.13. In the 400m relay Keen, Kendra Douglas, Genevieve Emrick and Elliot placed seventh clocking in a time of 3:45.96.

 

 

In the field events, Alisha Bradshaw placed eighth in the shot put and sixth in the discus. Bradhshaw's heave of 47.88 was a new Western Carolina record. She had a toss of 14.33 in the shot put.

Xaviera Bass placed sixth in the high jump with a jump of 1.72m.
