CULLOWHEE, N.C. - For the second time this season Western Carolina track & field senior Scott Peretin has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday. The Chapel Hill, N.C., native took home a pair of event victories and a second place finish at the 2017 Beynon Sports Surfaces Catamount Classic this past weekend.
Peretin won the shot put with a best-mark of 15.56m (51-00.75). Peretin’s mark was a career personal best and ranks first in the SoCon. He was also the top collegiate finisher in the hammer throw with a best-distance of 53.39m (175-02), placing second overall. He also set the SoCon top mark 56.90m (186-08) in the men’s hammer throw at High Point’s VertKlasse Meeting on March 31. Additionally, Peretin took third place at the Beynon Sports Catamount Classic in the discus throw with a best-throw of 47.01m (154-04), which is good for fourth on the SoCon outdoor performance list
Peretin was also named the Field Athlete of the Week on April 6.
Peretin and the rest of the Catamounts will return to competition Friday, April 28 as they host the WCU Invitational Presented by Catamount Travel Center.
