CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The 2013 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship is set to be held at Georgia Souhern's Eagle Field on the campus of Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Ga. on Saturday and Sunday April 20-21.
This will be the 89th annual Outdoor Track and Field Championship for the men and the 27th annual for the women. The top eight individuals in each event score, while the top 3 individuals in each event are awarded All-Conference honors.
The Appalachian State men and women took the title in 2012. It was the third consecutive title for the Mountaineer men, while the women have won back-to-back championships. The men scored 238 points followed by Western Carolina with 225. The women tallied 207.5 points, followed by Western Carolina with 149.
The championship will begin Saturday at 8 a.m. with five of the men's decathlon events, followed by the start of the women's heptathlon beginning at 8:30 a.m. The awards ceremony is tentatively set for Sunday at 5:45 p.m.

Western Carolina currently has 32 student-athletes in the top-three spots in the various events - 18 on the men's side and 14 on the women's - with 10 on top in the SoCon standings - six for the men's and four for the women's.
In the latest SoCon power rankings, Western Carolina's men's and women's sit atop the rankings with the men holding a commanding 257 points and the women leading with 182.
The Catamount men's team is pursuing its first outdoor SoCon title since winning it in 2009. The past three years, 2010, 2011 and 2012, the men have placed second. Western Carolina's women's team won its last title in 2012 and have placed second the last two years.
