CULLOWHEE, N.C. -
Western Carolina field athletes Alisha Bradshaw and Jamie Van Pelt were named the Southern Conference's Men's and Women's Field Athletes of the Week for meets over last weekend. The selections were made by the league's track and field coaches.
Bradshaw, a freshman, took the conference lead in the discus at the Auburn Tiger Track Classic after tossing a Western Carolina record of 46.33m (152' 11"). The Salisbury, N.C., native also recorded a personal best in the hammer throw with a mark of 47.85m (157'8"). Bradshaw is the third female Catamount to receive the weekly honor as Jocelyn Keen (Mar. 20) and Meghan Morton (Apr. 3) have received SoCon weekly honors.
Van Pelt recorded two personal records over the weekend at the Auburn Tiger Track Classic. The senior from Tampa, Fla., had a 49.00m (160' 9") mark in the discus and a 55.33m (181' 6") mark in the hammer throw. Van Pelt is the first WCU male to be selected this season.
Western Carolina will make one final tune up before Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship - held in Cullowhee on April 21-22 - as the Catamounts travel to Boone for the Appalachian Open Meet held on Friday.
