Cullowhee, N.C. - For the second time this spring, Western Carolina sophomore Alisha Bradshaw was today named the Southern Conference's Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week as selected by the league's track & field coaches and released by the conference office.
Bradshaw claimed first place in three events at the 2013 Wofford Terrier Relays in Spartanburg, S.C., over the weekend. The sophomore won the hammer with a toss of 164-1 (50.02m), the discus with a throw of 146-0 (44.51m) and the shot put with a season-best toss of 45-7.25 (13.90m). Her throws in both the hammer and discus were just inches off of her all time personal records.
A product of Salisbury, N.C., Bradshaw currently ranks second in the SoCon rankings in all three of her field events.
Bradshaw was additionally honored back on March 28 after again winning three individual event titles at the home meet, the Beynon Sports Surfaces Catamount Classic.
Additionally, Men's track standout Brandon Hairston received an honorable mention from the league. Hairston recorded SoCon-leading performances in both the 200-meter and the 400-meter dash events at the Auburn Tiger Track Classic. He recorded a time of 21.13 in the 200m and circled the track in 47.40 in the 400m.
In addition to pacing the league in both aforementioned events, Hairston also leads the SoCon in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.53, and is also a member of WCU's SoCon leading 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter Relay squads.
Western Carolina returns to action this Friday in Boone, N.C., at the Appalachian Open Outdoor Track Meet at Kidd Brewer Stadium. The event gets underway with field events at Noon with the track events beginning at 1:00 pm.
