Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina's Adam Puett and Leslie Martin were named the Southern Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week, it was announced today. This is the first time in school history that Western has had a male and female track and field athlete earn this honor in the same week.

Puett, a redshirt freshman from Huntsville, Ala., ran an NCAA regional qualifying time of 3:47.92 in the 1500 meter run at Georgia Tech's Yellow Jacket Invitational on April 5. He leads the conference by over 4.5 seconds and his time is less than 0.3 seconds off of the oldest standing WCU outdoor track and field record.

Martin, a sophomore from Jonesville, Va., ran a lifetime best at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on April 5 in the 800 meter run in 2:11.98. She currently leads the conference in the 800. Martin also ran a lifetime best in the 4x400 meter relay at the same meet, running her leg of the relay in 55.2 seconds.

The Catamounts return to action this weekend as they head to Charlotte for the UNCC Invitational April 12.
