Cullowhee, N.C. -
Western Carolina sophomores Zeb Johnson and Tangelia Johnson were today named the Southern Conference Men's and Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week by the league office. Zeb Johnson was joined by Chattanooga's Ian Mayne and Davidson's Douglas Noreen as three individuals shared the men's weekly honor.
The award for Zeb Johnson was his first of this outdoor season, but his second weekly selection this year as he was the tabbed SoCon's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week on February 8. He joins seniors Milton Bolton and Lawrence Briscoe, both of which also earned the outdoor weekly honor this season. Tangelia Johnson's honor was the first of her career, joining classmate Raquel Ramseur as the two women to earn the weekly nod from WCU.
Johnson, a sophomore from Charlotte, NC, led a top four finishing position sweep by winning the 200-meter dash at the Western Invitational in a NCAA Regional qualifying, WCU school record and Catamount Athletic Complex (CAC) facility time of 20.88. On the women's side, Tangelia Johnson won the 100- and 200-meter events at the Western Invitational. Her 200-meter time was a WCU school record 24.11, just edging classmate Ramseur who ran 24.12 in second.
