The Southern Conference announced sophomore Meghan Morton as the March women’s field athlete of the month today, highlighting excellence among student-athletes during the month. The athletes of the month are nominated by each member institution and selected by the conference office. Morton was also named the women’s outdoor field athlete of the week by the conference.
Meghan Morton opened her outdoor season winning the javelin title at the 49er Classic. She recorded a personal best throw of 44.78m (146’11”). The sophomore also won the javelin event with a throw of 42.69m (140’1”) at the Mountains vs. Beach Invitational to close out March. Morton currently leads the conference in the event by close to 11 feet.
Last week, Morton won the javelin at the Mountains vs. Beaches Meet hosted by UNC Wilmington.
Morton is the second Catamount to receive the honor this outdoor season as classmate Jocelyn Keen was named athlete of the week two weeks ago for her efforts in the 800m.
The Western Carolina track & field teams will be in action this weekend at the Auburn Invitational hosted by Auburn University.
