On March 23, the Southern Conference today named Western Carolina's Adam Puett and Laura Tieszen as the Men and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Performer of the Week for their accomplishments on March 18 at the 49er Classic outdoor meet at the Irwin Belk Track in Charlotte, NC.
Puett, a junior from Huntsville, AL, won the 5,000 meter run with a time of 14:47.09, three seconds ahead of the second place finisher. His time currently leads the Southern Conference Performance Rankings in the event and qualifies him for the NCAA East Regional meet. The time also marks an all-time personal best for Puett in the event.
Tieszen, a senior from Rapid City, SD, placed first in the pole vault with a height of 12' 5-5". Her mark currently leads the Southern Conference Performance Rankings in the event and qualifies her for the NCAA East Regional meet. Tieszen was also recently recognized for her achievement in the classroom, garnering All-SoCon Academic and TIAA CREF Academic honors.
The Track Cats return to action this Saturday, April, 2, as Western will host its first outdoor track meet on the new facilities in Cullowhee, the Catamount Classic.
