Asheville, N.C. - The Southern Conference announced today that Wesern Carolina's Altavise Franklin was named the SoCon Female Track & Field Athlete of the Week. This honor comes off of a stellar performance at the Clemson Relays last weekend.

Franklin, a senior from Hendersonville, N.C., won the javelin at the Clemson Relays with a personal best throw of 133'10". Her mark leads the Southern Conference on the javelin performance list. Franklin also won the high jump with a height of 5'5", a mark that ties her with WCU teammate Virginia LaCombe for the tops in the SoCon.

The Catamounts travel to Gainseville, Fla. this weekend, March 28-30, to compete in the Florida Relays.
