Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina track & field teams were awarded the weekly Southern Conference Track & Field honors this past week as Catamount sophomore Felicia Paulding and senior Manteo Mitchell were named Track & Field Athletes of the Week on March 26.

Mitchell, a senior from Mooresboro, N.C. picks up his second Southern Conference weekly award winning an indoor track athlete of the week award back on January 21. It is also the second time that Felicia Paulding has claim the award this season winning one in the indoor track & field season back on February 5.

Running at the UNC Charlotte 49er Classic last weekend in Charlotte, MItchell ran a 46.53 in the preliminaries of the 400-meter dash and 21.25 in the prelims of the 200-meter dash to qualify for the NCAA Regionals. The senior was also a part of the 4x100-meter relay (41.18) and 4x400-meter relay (3:11.39) squads that claimed titles at the event.

Paulding, a sophomore, won the 200-meter dash at the Charlotte 49er Classic this past weekend in a time of 24.47. Paulding also ran a wind-aided 11.68 in the prelims of the 100-meter dash to qualify third in the finals. Racing in her home city, Paulding also helped lead the Catamounts' 4x400-meter relay team to a first-place finish with a time of 3:44.23 and the 4x100-meter relay team to a second-place finish with a time of 46.57.

Western Carolina outdoor track & field teams will return to action this weekend in a three day event that will conclude on Saturday in the Asics Winthrop Invitational hosted by Winthrop University at Rock Hill, S.C.
