Cullowhee, N.C. - Senior Milton Bolton and sophomore Raquel Ramseur were honored today as Western Carolina garnered both of the Southern Conference's Outdoor Track & Field weekly awards. The two marked the first for WCU after just one week of outdoor competition and gave the Catamounts their second and third weekly honor of this year, including the indoor season.

Bolton (East Point, Ga.), was selected as the SoCon's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week on the men's side after winning the 400-meter dash at the Charlotte 49er Classic over the weekend. He circled the track in a NCAA Regional qualifying and conference leading time of 47.23. He nearly ran the regional qualifying mark during the preliminaries, clocking a time of 47.69 to move into the finals. In addition, Bolton was a member of Western's second place 4x100-meter relay (41.50) and the third place 4x400-meter relay (3:12.05) teams, both of which currently lead the SoCon performance charts. Bolton teamed with SoCon Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, Zeb Johnson, Mike Malone, and Kevin Johnson in the 400-meter relay, while Manteo Mitchell and James Gregory joined Bolton and Zeb Johnson on the 1600-meter relay squad.

Also earning athlete of the week honors was sophomore sprinter, Raquel Ramseur, who was selected on the women's side. Ramseur posted a runner-up finish in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 54.69 at the Charlotte 49er Classic, just eight one-hundredths off the NCAA regional mark. Ramseur currently leads the SoCon on the 400-meter dash time charts, an event in which she won during the conference's indoor championship meet. The second-year runner from Charlotte, N.C., also ran a leg on the WCU 4x400-meter relay team which placed second place with a time of 3:46.90, teaming with classmates Brooke Saddler and Tangelia Johnson and junior Asia Davis to record the runner-up finish.

Western Carolina's track & field teams return to action this Friday and Saturday as they visit the Clemson Relays in Clemson, S.C. The Catamounts are set to host the Western Invitational on March 31 through April 1 at the Catamount Athletic Complex on-campus in Cullowhee.
