Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina senior sprinter Asia Davis was today named the Southern Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week for her performances during the week of March 21. The award is the first for WCU this outdoor season.

Battling windy and cold conditions, Davis won the 400-meter hurdle event at last weekend's Charlotte 49er Classic with a SoCon-leading time of 1:01.12. The Charlotte, N.C., native qualified for the NCAA Championship in the same event last season, finishing fifth in her heat and 25th overall in the nation.

Also last week, Davis ran 14.36 - the second-best time in the conference - to place sixth in the 100-meter hurdles. Additionally, she ran a leg of the women's 4x400-meter relay team, turning a split time of 56.8 as the Catamounts finished fourth at the event with a conference-leading time of 3:51.98.

The Catamounts return to action this weekend, March 23-24, at the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C., before hosting the Western Carolina Invitational on Saturday, March 31 in Cullowhee.
