Gainesville, Fla. - Western Carolina high jumper Virginia LaCombe cleared six feet today at the University of Florida Fast Times Invitational to automatically qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

LaCombe, the reigning Southern Conference high jump champion, currently has the fourth-best effort in the United States in the event. She will be the first Catamount to participate it the NCAA Indoors since pole vaulter Valerie Jalajas participated in 2000.

Caleb Bailey also had a productive day on Florida's campus. He ran 1:52.40 in the 800-meters to set a Western Carolina record. Bailey was named most outstanding runner at the 2002 SoCon Indoor Championships, taking medalist honors in the 800.

Catamount Michelle Velez is hoping to earn a berth to the NCAA Indoor Championships. She is a provisional qualifier in the pole vault.
