Western Carolina head basketball coaches Larry Hunter and Kellie Harper, was well as head track & field coach Danny Williamson, are to be the featured guests on Wednesday night's return of "In the Litterbox."
The weekly, interactive sports talk show which centers on Catamount Athletics can be heard on WWCU-FM, Power 90dot5 or online at www.WWCUFM.com. Fans can call into the show at (828) 227-7173.
Catamount basketball enters its final week of the regular season with three combined games remaining. Action kicks off this Thursday night as WCU hosts Samford in the annual Beach Night in the Ramsey Center. Fans are encouraged to come dressed in their best beach wear to enjoy the game and great Carolina beach music with special themed contests.
The Lady Catamounts, which locked up a first-round bye with last weekend's sweep of first-place Chattanooga and Samford, host Wofford in the first game of a Saturday twin bill with the Catamount men entertaining Chattanooga with a shot at a share of the divisional title on the line.
Saturday's game is being billed as the "Catamount Stimulus Package" with FREE admission for both games. There will also be the popular "Fan Frenzy" with giveaways, including WCU apparel, groceries and food, at every timeout. Fans can also get a free drink with the purchase of a hotdog at the concessions stands.
Williamson and the Track & Field team head to the Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship this Friday and Saturday at Clemson, S.C. On the women's side, the Catamounts lead four of the track events paced by Felicia Paulding and Janet Carothers while the men, paced by Manteo Mitchell and Dominique Young, dominate the sprint time charts with several student-athletes strong in field events.
It should be the traditional Western Carolina vs. Appalachian State showdown this weekend, with conference newcomer Samford and Georgia Southern on the women's side among others adding depth to the competition.
In its fourth season, "In the Litterbox" (ITL) spotlights Western Carolina Catamount athletics with discussion of events, as well as interviews with coaches, student-athletes and other Catamount personalities. The show is co-hosted by Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations, Daniel Hooker, and Catamount Sports Network sideline reporter, Greg McLamb, and is produced by station student general manager, Aaron D'Innocenzi.
WWCU-FM, Power 90dot5 continues to serve as the Flagship Station of Catamount Athletics this season, broadcasting Catamount football, men's and women's basketball, and baseball. WWCU has also been a partner with WCU Athletics in broadcasting the SoCon Women's Soccer Championship and NCAA tournament appearance, as well as the first-ever Catamount Softball games, continuing with both the softball and baseball SoCon tournaments.
