Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina senior pole vaulter Laura Tieszen placed second in the women's pole vault competition at the Tennessee Indoor Classic, held at the Stokely Athletic Center in Knoxville, Tenn.

Tieszen cleared 3.70 meters (12-1.50) to tie for second place with Tennessee's Jessica Andrews. Another Lady Vol, Jessica Ruest, won the competition with a NCAA Provisional height of 3.95 meters (12-11.5).

Western's head coach Danny Williamson decided to add Tieszen to the indoor meet at Tennessee after she soared over the provisional mark a week ago at the Tiger Invitational at Clemson.

Williamson, Tieszen, and the rest of the Catamount Track & Field team will be in action this coming weekend at the Southern Conference Indoor Championships. Competition begins on Friday, February 25 and will conclude on Saturday, February 26 at the Memorial Center in Johnson City, Tenn. The Catamount men will look to defend their title from a year ago while the women look to return to the top for the first time since 2000 when the Cats won the second of back-to-back team titles.
