Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina juniors Zeb Johnson and Raquel Ramseur were today named Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for Jan. 31, as announced by the conference office. The awards are the first for both this season, with Ramseur sharing the weekly honor with Davidson distance runner, Brenna Burns.

Johnson and Ramseur, who were both named SoCon Freshmen of the Year during the outdoor season two years ago, have combined to earn seven weekly honors from the conference. Johnson garnered the SoCon Indoor Track MVP last year, and has two indoor and two outdoor weekly honors during his career. Ramseur, who in addition to the outdoor was also the indoor rookie of the year two seasons ago, has been honored during the week twice during indoor and once in the outdoor season over her three-year career.

Johnson finished second in the University division of the 60-meter dash at last weekend's Niswonger Invitational in Johnson City, Tenn., with a time of 6.92. The Charlotte, N.C., native also posted a WCU season-best time of 21.59 in the 200-meter dash, which qualified him for the finals. As a member of the Catamount men's 4x400-meter relay team, Johnson ran a split time of 47.0 seconds in both the preliminaries and in the finals guiding Western to a first-place run.

Overall this season, Johnson leads three of Western's individual top times charts and currently sits atop the SoCon individual rankings list in the 60-meter dash (6.80), 200-meter dash (21.59), 400-meter dash (49.01) and as a member of the WCU 4x400-meter relay team (3:13.07).

Ramseur was the first place collegian at the Niswonger Invitational in the 400-meter dash with a WCU seasonal-best time of 55.95. The Charlotte native was additionally the third-best collegiate sprinter in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 24.94, just three-one-hundredths of a second off her seasonal best. On the Catamounts' 1,600-meter relay team, Ramseur ran a 54.2 split on her leg helping Western finish second overall with a season-best time of 3:46.60.

On the season to date, Ramseur leads the SoCon rankings in the 200-meter dash (24.59), 400-meter dash (55.95) and is on the league-leading 4x400-meter relay team (3:46.60). She is also ranked fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.77).

Western Carolina returns to action this Friday and Saturday (Feb. 2-3) at the Akron Indoor Open in Akron, Ohio.
