Western Carolina's Chenell Bryan turned in a distance of 5.76m, 18' 10.75", in the long jump to finish second at the Niswonger Invitational this weekend to earn Field Athlete of the Week from the Southern Conference.
The freshman from Asheville, N.C. has finished second twice this indoor season with a distance of 5.47m at the Appalachian Invitational and her mark of 5.76m, which leads the Southern Conference, at the Niswonger Invitational this past weekend. She also has a sixth place finish after a distance of 5.49m at the Wake Forest Invitational.
It is the 18th time a member of the women's track and field team has earn athlete of the week since the conference started recognizing the award in 2001 and the last time since Alisha Bradshaw was named field performer of the week on February 27, 2013. Overall, she is the 15th Catamount athlete to earn the weekly honors from the league.
Bryan and the Catamounts indoor track and field teams will compete Friday, January 24 and Saturday, January 25 for their next meet.
