Western Carolina expects to continue its tradition of strong Track & Field team competition this year. On the women's end, Western looks to continue its dominance in the commpetitive Southern Conference. Anything less of another Conference Championship would be below the standard that this team has set for itself. The women's Track & Field looks to be included in the top ten teams in the southern region.
As for the men, WCU hopes to reclaim the Southern Conference titles that they relinquished last season. Finishing a close second at both the Indoor and Outdoor Championships. Also, the men's squad looks to be one of the top teams in the southern region.
On the national scene both squads look to be contenders for a top 25 national rank in the NCAA Division I team power rankings. (Their rankings are based upon the complete strength of the team). In addition, WCU looks to have more athletes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Division I National Championships. In order to get our athletes in a position to be competitive at this level, WCU will travel to the likes of Clemson University, Iowa State University, University of Florida, University of Tennessee, Ohio State University, and the Penn Relays, just to name a few. This will give the WCU track and field teams an opportunity to meet the ultimate challenge of competing against the best in the nation.
"This can be a very productive season, and will add to the strong tradition that has been established over the past ten years," stated Head Coach Danny Williamson.
