Cullowhee,N.C. - Senior Manteo Mitchell finishes his 2009 season falling short at the NCAA Outdoor Championships late into the nite on Wednesday. Mitchell finished with a time of 47.04 seconds in the preliminaries for a 23rd place finish.

Senior sprinter Manteo Mitchell finishes his career as a Catamount placing 23rd in the men's 400-meter dash in Fayetteville, Arkansas late Wednesday night. Mitchell finished with a time of 47.04 seconds.

After a three-hour plus rain delay causing the running events to be pushed back to almost midnight, Mitchell came up short of qualifying for the semi-finals on Thursday. In the five heats, the top three times would advance and one best time to complete the 16 participant semi-final on Thursday.

Mitchell, who came into the event with a solid 46.00 seconds needed to run just that as he finished fifth in his heat at 47.04 and finishing his storied career at Western Carolina.

Western Carolina Track & Field have completed their 2009 season and will look to have continued success in winning a championship in each of the past two seasons.
