Garren, Hairston Compete in Day Two of NCAA Regionals

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Western Carolina track & field athletes concluded day two of the 2011 Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary. Two Catamounts - junior Felisha Garren and sophomore Brandon Hairston - competed on Friday for WCU.

After running a personal-best 53.89 in the 400-meter dash on Thursday, Felisha Garren ran in the semifinals of the event on Friday. Garren placed fourth in the first heat, crossing the stripe in 54.29. Her time was good enough for 14th place overall, thus ending the junior's 2011 campaign. The Fletcher, N.C. -native finished the outdoor season with three victories, including a victory in the 400-meter dash in the SoCon Championships and also a second place finish in the 200-meter dash at the conference championships. Garren had the fastest 400-meter time in the SoCon.

Sophomore Brandon Hairston also competed Friday afternoon, running in the preliminary heats of the 200-meter dash. Hairston posted a 21.68, finishing 33rd overall. The sophomore completed his outdoor season with six top-five finishes, including a second place SoCon Outdoors.
