Carter Closes Out Career at 2016 NCAA East Preliminary

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior Tayla Carter completed her outstanding Western Carolina track & field career Thursday evening at the 2016 NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Fla. Carter qualified for the NCAAs all four years of her collegiate career and was undefeated at the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships in both the 100m and 200m. She entered Thursday’s event as the 30th ranked sprinter in the 100m distance in the East region which encompasses all schools east of the Mississippi River.

Carter finished fifth in her heat and tied for 31st overall in the 100m with a time of 11.78. Only 24 athletes advanced to the finals.

Carter ends her career as the Western Carolina record holder in the 100m which she set as a sophomore. She will now continue her training for the Olympic Trails for her native Bahamas which will take place later this summer.

Freshman Tyrie Adams and junior Hailey Cook will compete in the men’s high jump and women’s shot put, respectively, on Saturday afternoon for Western Carolina.
