Atlanta, Ga. - Members of the Western Carolina University track and field team competed at the Georgia Tech Invitational over the weekend in preparation for the NCAA Regionals coming up in Fairfax, Va., on May 30. Southern Conference Freshman of the Year John Robertson qualified for the regional meet in the 800 meter run with an all-time personal best mark of 1:50.37, finishing in fourth place for the Catamounts. Teammate Caleb Bailey rounded out the top 10 in the event with a time of 1:51.33.
For the remainder of the men's squad, Milton Bolton finished with a time of 21.64 in the 200 meter dash and 47.95 in the 400 meter race. Patrick Mauldin completed the 200 in 21.91 and Adam Puett crossed the finish line in 3:57.44 in the 1500 meter run. The men's 4x400 meter relay team placed eighth with a combined time of 3:19.91. SoCon javelin champion Josh Lee threw 181'5" to place 11th in the event this weekend.
Michelle Velez placed seventh in the pole vault, clearing 12', and finished the 100 meter hurdles in 14.68. Leslie Martin finished with a time of 2:14.09 in the 800 meter run, while teammate Becky Signoretti crossed the line in 2:26.62.
Ten Catamounts will have nearly two weeks to prepare before going on to compete at the NCAA Regional meet in Fairfax on Friday, May 30. Those that qualify there will advance to the Outdoor Championships in Sacramento, Ca., on June 12.
