Clemson, S.C. - Virginia LaCombe automatically qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships with her jump of six feet in the women's high jump at the annual Orange/Purple Classic at Clemson University Saturday. That jump was also a Clemson field record as well as a Western Carolina outdoor record.

Other Catamounts who competed in the Saturday meet include Leslie Martin who finished fourth in the women's 800 meter run with a time of 2:16.70. Laura Tieszen placed second in the women's pole vault at 12' 1.5".

In the men's events, Caleb Bailey placed second in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:49.71. James Irwin finished tenth in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:12.61.

The Catamounts travel to Atlanta next for the Georgia Tech Invitational, which runs from Thursday, May 16 through Saturday, May 18. LaCombe will compete in the NCAA Championships, which begin on Thursday, May 30.
