Select members of the Western Carolina track & field team sought entry to the NCAA Track & Field Championships by attempting to better their marks and times at the 2012 Bob Pollock Invitational held at Clemson University Saturday. The Catamounts picked up two victories with one of the winners - Alisha Bradshaw - breaking her own school record in the discus.
Freshman Alisha Bradshaw first set the Western Carolina school record in the discus back on April 7 when the Catamounts first came to Clemson this outdoor season for the Tiger Classic with her throw of 46.60m. Tigertown continued to be good to Bradshaw as she broke her own record Saturday with her new personal best throw of 47.17m nearly a month later.
Sophomore Jocelyn Keen also continied her highly successful 2012 outdoor campaign in the 800m event. Fresh off of her win in the SoCon Championships two weeks ago, Keen also set a new personal best - besting her previous time which was also set at the Tiger Classic - with her winning time of 2:07.68. Freshman teammate Lena Elliott also picked up a top-five finish, placing fourth with a time of 2:16.29.
In the 100m dash, Janise Robinson ran her second fastest time of the season, crossing the stripe in 12.03. In the javelin, senior Summer Hughes also threw her second best mark of the year with her throw of 41.01m, earning a second place finish.
On the men's side, WCU's Sam Lusty (53.14), Tyler Bentley (53.17) and Marquis Bailey claimed the five through seven spots in the 400m hurdles. Lusty and Bentley both ran personal bests.
also earned a fifth place finish in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.99m, the second highest clearance of the season for Orr.
All four Catamount relay teams competed Saturday with the men's and women's 4x400m relay teams and the women's 4x100m relay team placing second. The men's 4x100m team placed fourth.
