A number of familiar faces again made their marks at the SoCon meet on Friday.

Chattanooga's Tyleana Hanner won two events on Friday, setting a new meet record in the heptathlon and also claiming the women's long jump. Hanner's 5,361 heptathlon points is a new SoCon women's meet record and also a provisional NCAA qualifying mark. She shattered the previous record of 4,292 points by nearly 1,100 points. Hanner also won the women's long jump with a leap of 19-06.75.

VMI's Philip Weismiller won the javelin with a toss of 181-02. Weismiller was also the 1999 SoCon champion. Damion McLean of Appalachian won the long jump with a leap of 23-10.

The decathlon concluded with East Tennessee State's Andrew Whitson winning a second consecutive title. The Buc sophomore total 6,233 points to outdistance Appalachian State's Chad Michael who compiled 5,795 points.
