Atlanta, Ga. - Western Carolina's Leslie Martin won the women's 800 meter title over the weekend at the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Invitational. Martin came in with a time of 2:08.87 in the event.
The Catamounts had several other top 10 finishers, including a second place finish in the women's 3000 meter steeple chase by Alissa Short, coming in at 11:42.25. Laura Tieszen came in third in the pole vault with a vault of 12 feet, 9.5 inches, while Asia Davis ran the 400 meter hurdles in 1:02.31, good for seventh place. Miranda Long came in eighth in the discus with a toss of 136-11 and Brittany Whittaker tied for ninth in the high jump with a leap of 5-2.25). Tiffany Mack and Laura Tieszen each had ninth place finishes in the triple jump (36-0) and javelin throw (107-10), respectively.
For the men, Darius Bryson came in 10th in the 200 meter dash at 22.25, while Milton Bolton gave a third place performance in the 400 meter dash with a time of 47.55 and James Gregory came in ninth in the 400 at 48.80. Lawrence Briscoe came in 10th in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.45 as well as 10th in the 400 meter hurdles in 55.22. Ben Watkins finished fourth in the men's 3000 meter steeple chase with a time of 9:46.98 and Tyler Ferguson came in sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 45-6.5. In the men's javelin throw, Josh Lee, Jason Stepp and Bobby Robinson all finished among the top 10. Lee came in third (195-11), Stepp finished ninth (151-6) and Robinson rounded out the top 10 (147-9).
