HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Western Carolina men’s and women’s track & field teams picked up 21 top-10 finishes on the final day of the VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point University Saturday afternoon. The highlight performance came in the women’s 4x100m relay as sophomore Mia Little, senior Tiffani Lewis, sophomore Dasha Arnaut and freshman Jazmine Gooden teamed up to round the track in just 46.14 to top the entire 14 team field.
Arnaut, a participant on the winning 4x100m relay team, also had an impressive individual performance as she took second in the 400m hurdles with a blazing time of 59.56.
Junior Dakota Lamont was WCU’s top male finisher as he took second in the 400m. He rounded the track in 48.26. Teammate and classmate Henry Kiedi finished just behind in third with a time of 48.37. The final top-10 finisher in the event for WCU was newcomer Devaniel Dale who came in sixth after stopping the clock at 49.11.
Lewis, another 4x100m relay team member, finished third in the 200m after crossing the line in 24.50. Gooden, who also ran with Lewis in the relay, finished two spots back in fifth with a time of 24.63. Gooden also picked up a top-10 finish in the 100m hurdles as she clocked in at 14.22 for a fifth place finish.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Lingard was the final top-three finisher for the Catamounts as she placed third in the women’s 800m. She rounded the track twice in 2:13.82.
Little, the fourth and final member of the winning 4x100m relay team, placed fourth individually in the 100m as she clocked in at 11.95.
Freshman Imani Bennett took fourth in the women’s triple jump as she measured out at 11.87m.
The men’s 4x100m relay team consisting of current Catamount football team member Keion Crossen, Lamont, Dale and Kiedi rounded the track in 42.07 to finish sixth.
The final top-10 performance came in the women’s discus throw as freshman Mahogani Holiday stopped the tape at 40.92m.
The Catamounts will be back in action next weekend as WCU travels to the Tiger Track Classic hosted by Auburn University.
