Clemson, S.C. - The Western Carolina men's and women's track and field teams finished strong at the Clemson University Relays over the weekend with the women's 4x800 meter relay team 'A' coming in first with a time of 9:32.84 and the women's 4x1500 meter relay team also finishing as the champions with a time of 19:56.33.

The Catamounts had several top 10 finishers. Among those leading the way for the Cats on the men's side were Bobby Robinson, who completed the 100 meter dash in 12.05 for eighth place. Lawrence Briscoe came in fourth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.42. The men's 4x100 and 4x200 meter relay 'A' teams both finished their events in second place in 41.80 and 1:27.24, respectively. The 4x400 meter relay 'A' team came in third in 3:27.55 and the 4x800 meter relay team 'A' came in second with a time of 7:52.64. The 4x1500 meter relay team placed fourth in 16:40.87.

In the men's field events, Sean Heaton tied for fourth in the pole vault at a height of 14'3.5". Justin Davis led the Cats in the long jump, coming in fourth at 22'9.5", while Tyler Ferguson came in seventh in the triple jump at 46'0.75". Jeb Hall came in seventh in the shot put with a distance of 50'8.75" and Nick McNeil finished sixth in the discus throw at 148'4". McNeil also finished sixth in the hammer throw at 157'10", while Robinson came in fifth in the javelin throw at 155'3".

For the women, Shantal Nelson came in ninth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.11. The WCU 4x100 meter relay team 'A' placed second in 47.21, while the 4x200 meter relay team came in third in 1:41.25. The 4x400 meter relay team 'A' finished second with a time of 3:51.59.

 

 

In the women's field events, Michelle Velez led the Lady Cats in the pole vault with a vault of 11'11.75", good for second place. Christel Kirkpatrick came in seventh in the long jump at 15'5" as Kineta Rogers placed third in the shot put witha distance of 40'3.5"/ Rogers also led WCU in the discus throw at 124'7" for fourth place. Quiletta Dunston finished sixth in the hammer throw at 146'2", while Rogers placed sixth in the javelin at 108'8".

Western Carolina travels to Gainesville, Fla., on Thursday to compete in the annual Florida Relays, March 27-28.
