Final Stats
Clemson, S.C. - WCU men's and women's track and field teams competed today in the Clemson Relays at the Rock Norman Track Complex in Clemson, S.C., winning several event titles in the meet.
In the women's running events, Michelle Valez claimed the first place victory in the 400 meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 1:05.14, and Rosalyn Hood came in right behind her at second, 1:05.68. In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Alissa Short claimed first place at 12:49.68. In the 4x100 meter relay, Western placed three teams in the event. Team A finished in first place with a time of 47.42. In the 4x400 meter relay, the Lady Catamounts also placed three teams. Team A came in first at 3:55.11. In the 4x1500 meter relay, WCU claimed first place with a time of 19:30.75. In the 1600 meter sprint medley, Western's Team A placed first at 4:05.73.
In the women's field events, the Lady Catamounts claimed first and second place in the high jump. Altavise Franklin and Virginia LaCombe both made a jump of 1.65 meters. In the long jump, Rosalyn Hood came in first with a jump of 5.72 meters. In the triple jump, Western claimed the top three spots. Virginia LaCombe came in first with a jump of 11.70 meters. In the hammer throw, Quiletta Dunston placed first with a throw of 43.62 meters. In the javelin throw, the Lady Cats claimed the top six spots with Altavise coming in first at 40.80 meters.
In the men's running events, the Catamounts claimed the top three spots in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with Ben Watkins coming in first at 10:06.31. In the 4x100 meter relay, Western claimed the top three spots as well with Team A coming in first at 41.48. In the 4x400 meter relay, Western's Team A placed first with a time of 3:14.75.
In the men's field events, Charles Rice placed first in the pole vault at 4.82 meters.
The Catamounts return to action starting on Thursday, March 28 at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla.
