Clemson, S.C. - The Western Carolina men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Clemson Relays over the weekend and three of the five Catamount women's relay teams came out on top. The 4x100, 4x200 and 4x800 meter relay teams all claimed first place finishes at the annual meet.
The Lady Catamounts' winning 4x100 team, who posted a time of 47.82, consisted of Asia Davis, Jennifer Spivey, Shameka Harris and Cassandra Gentry. The 4x200 team, with a time of 1:42.13, consisted of Gentry, Harris, Spivey and Tiffany Mack. The 4x800 team, with a time of 9:31.69, consisted of Becky Signoretti, Tonya Edmonds, Melanie Cooper and Alissa Short.
Several other Catamounts earned titles as well over the weekend, including Laura Tieszen in the women's pole vault, clearin 3.80 meters. T. Alford finished first in the men's 100 meter dash with a time of 10.61 and Xavier Godard had the best distance in the long jump with a leap of 7.13 meters (23' 4.75"). Also, the WCU men's 4x200 meter relay team (Darius Bryson, James Barr, Milton Bolton and Alford) placed first, coming in at 1:25.77.
Tieszen's mark in the pole vault qualified her for the NCAA Regional Championships, which is set to take place in Gainesville, Fla., May 28-29. She additionally came through with a personal best in the javelin.
Others to have a personal best at Clemson included
Bobby Robinson (javelin),
Ryan Fussell (javelin) and
Sharhonda Bell (shot put). Also,
Robert Spears, Cooper, Short, and Fussell each had all time personal bests in their respective relay splits.
